Slow Down and Savor Winter on Ohio's Scenic Route Road Trip

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Winter in Ohio is more than a season-it's an experience! From frozen waterfalls and rugged cliffs to serene nature preserves and charming towns, the Ohio Winter Scenic Route Road Trip invites travelers to discover breathtaking beauty and unforgettable adventures.

Recently refreshed with new content and updated itineraries, the Winter Scenic Route Road Trip is designed for anyone ready to embrace the magic of winter and explore the heart of Ohio's great outdoors.

"The scenic route road trip connects travelers to the places, people, and the moments that make visiting Ohio special," said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. "When Ohioans hit the road, they're supporting local businesses and strengthening communities across the state while making lasting memories with loved ones."

The route features 10 unique stops across Ohio's diverse regions, each offering its own winter wonder. Whether you take on the full itinerary or choose a regional getaway, you'll find curated suggestions for places to stay, eat, and explore- all at Ohio.org.

Unique stops on the road trip include:

Oak Openings Preserve Metropark in Swanton, Toledo's largest Metropark that spans from an oak savanna to marshy wetlands, and home to the nation's only public treehouse village.

Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park in Nelson Township provides a thrilling experience for visitors of all ages with rugged cliffs, waterfalls, and truly spectacular rock formations.

Battelle Darby Creek Metropark in Galloway offers 14 hiking trails through forests, prairies, wetlands, and, most notably, along two enclosed pastures that house the park's herd of Bison.

Shawnee State Park in West Portsmouth first operated as the "Theodore Roosevelt Game Preserve" when the lands were acquired in 1922 and acted as Ohio's first wildlife area with the goal of reestablishing wildlife and the reforestation of the area.

"Planning a winter getaway doesn't have to be complicated. The Winter Scenic Route gives you everything you need-great stops, easy itineraries, and plenty of ways to enjoy the season. So, grab your coat, hit the road, and make the most of winter in Ohio," said Sarah Wickham, state tourism director.

Road trippers are reminded to stay safe on the roads, especially during the winter months, and take advantage of the Ohio Department of Transportation's OHGO app for real time Ohio traffic and road status updates. Ohio Rest Areas are also the perfect place to rest, recharge, and refocus on long car journeys, and Ohio's reimaged rest areas provide added travel inspiration for nearby destinations and attractions.
