Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding statements by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia (17.12.2025)

We recall that the constitutional name of the neighboring state is "North Macedonia," as clearly provided for in Article 1 of the Prespa Agreement, to which it is a party.

The Prespa Agreement constitutes an integral part of the Constitution of North Macedonia and is fully binding on both Parties at both the international and domestic levels.

Any attempt to alter or distort the content of the Agreement will not be accepted by the Greek side.

The Prespa Agreement constitutes part of International Law, and compliance with it is a fundamental prerequisite for the peaceful coexistence of peoples and states.

In international treaties, there are no de facto situations; their implementation is uniform and universal.

Progress in bilateral relations with North Macedonia and the smooth continuation of its European accession process are conditional on the principle that the agreements be observed and on respect for the principle of good neighborly relations.
