The state's first 4-H Club, located near Haʻikū, Maui, will be honored for 106 years of service to Hawaiʻi's agriculture community.
The public is invited to the dedication of a special plaque on January 25 in Maui that celebrates Hawaiʻi 4-H, honors the program's rich legacy, and connects with the roots of the community's agricultural heritage. Past 4-H members and their families are encouraged to share their Hawaiʻi 4-H stories.
The state's first 4-H club began with 31 members of the Boys' Swine Club in 1918, founded by diversified farming advocate Frederick Krauss. Today, Hawaiʻi 4-H offers its 4,000 youth members a modern hands-on education in plants/gardening and animal science, food and nutrition, environmental science, technology and engineering, and consumer and family sciences.
The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience administers the Hawaiʻi 4-H program, working in collaboration with community partners and volunteers.

About 4-H
The 4-H program empowers young people to thrive through practical, hands-on learning experiences. For more than a century, 4-H youth development has been a cornerstone of Cooperative Extension, through which land-grant universities offer outreach services and non-traditional education to communities across the United States.
Currently, there are approximately 6.4 million 4-H members nationwide, with programs in all 50 states. Members aged 5-19 participate in diverse programs aimed at developing life skills, leadership, and community service involvement. Through firsthand learning supported by more than 603,000 adult volunteers who donate their time as leaders and mentors, 4-H inspires young people to become caring, competent, and contributing members of society. Active for more than a century, 4-H has engaged tens of millions of participants since its inception. Many alumni continue to support 4-H through volunteering, advocacy, or financial contributions.
