New Mixed-Income Community Aims to Foster Family-Oriented Living in Atlanta's Historic West End

ATLANTA-The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD), in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), announce the advancement of the redevelopment of the former Peeples Street Elementary School site in the historic West End neighborhood into a vibrant mixed-income residential community. This initiative embodies the City's Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative by transforming underutilized public land into equitable housing opportunities.

"This project is a vital step toward delivering much-needed affordable housing in our community," said Mayor Andre Dickens. "We are committed to creating inclusive neighborhoods that honor our history while providing modern amenities for Atlanta families."

AUD and the City of Atlanta have worked collaboratively with residents to develop a vision for the redevelopment of this 5.8-acre site into a vibrant mixed-income community to include approximately 70 rental and homeownership units. The project is anticipated to include a significant affordable housing component, including 20% of units for families earning up to 50% of the area median income (AMI) and an additional 10% of units for families earning up to 80% AMI.

AUD CEO John Majors emphasized the importance of community input in shaping this vision, saying "We are excited to engage with potential development partners who share our commitment to sustainable, family-oriented design that respects the neighborhood's character."
