WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett released the following statement: "I am aware of reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to convert an industrial warehouse in Hutchins, Texas - a city I am proud to represent - into one of the largest detention facilities in the nation. At this time, my office has not received any formal notice, briefing, or direct communication from the Department of Homeland Security or ICE regarding this facility.
"The moment these reports surfaced, my office contacted the relevant federal agencies to request detailed and accurate information. To date, those requests have gone unanswered. In the meantime, we have remained in close coordination with the City of Hutchins - including the Mayor, City Manager, City Council, and regional elected officials - to ensure a unified and informed response.
"Hutchins is a city on the rise - focused on growth, opportunity, and long-term sustainability. The proposed conversion not only jeopardizes that progress but also raises substantial concerns about human rights, public safety, and local infrastructure capacity.
"We do not need an ICE facility in our backyard. I will continue to stand with the City of Hutchins and its residents, and I will demand transparency, accountability, and meaningful engagement before any decisions are made that would directly impact this community."
