In a digitally native company, innovation is not an extra, it is part of its DNA

Tell us a little about yourself. What does your job at Telefónica involve?

I support digital native companies in their technological and digital evolution. My day-to-day work involves understanding their business challenges and offering solutions that help them to be more efficient, secure and competitive.

I work with a brilliant team, and my role is to connect these different teams at Telefónica with the real needs of the customer. Ultimately, it's about building long-term relationships based on trust and being useful at key moments.

How can innovation help digital native companies grow?

Innovation is their driving force. In a digital native company, innovation is not an extra, it is part of their DNA. What we bring to the table at Telefónica is professionalisation of their processes, scalability and, above all, solidity.

With that foundation, a digital company can launch new products faster, explore more sustainable business models or reach markets where it previously could not operate with confidence.

How does this support for innovation differ from that provided to companies that are not digitally native?

In these companies, innovation is part of their DNA, whereas in more 'traditional' companies there is an adoption curve that is often accompanied by cultural transformation. This forces us to constantly keep up to date with the latest technologies.

How does digital transformation help companies that were born in digital environments?

It allows them to stay ahead of the curve. Even if they were born digital, if they don't keep transforming, they can become obsolete just the same.

For them, digital transformation is a tool for consolidation and expansion: automating operations, better protecting themselves against cyber threats, analysing large volumes of data in real time, etc.

We often help these companies move from rapid growth to sustainable and scalable growth.

Is digital transformation even more important for companies that predate the digital age?

Absolutely. For them, digital transformation is not just an option, it is a matter of survival and relevance.

What role do new technologies such as blockchain and AI play in digital transformation?

They play a key role. AI, for example, is revolutionising productivity - achieving more with leaner companies.

Blockchain provides transparency, traceability and security in sectors where trust is critical, such as finance, logistics and healthcare.

At Telefónica, we work to make these technologies available to our customers in a practical, secure way that is aligned with their business objectives.

Which people working at Telefónica would you nominate for this interview because you consider them to be excellent at their job?

There is a lot of talent within Telefónica, and that is something that motivates me every day. I would nominate José Luís López Díaz from my team. He has an incredible perspective on digital native customers and a wealth of experience to share.
