Help keep waste collections safe

Published date
31 July 2026

Residents are reminded not to place hazardous items, such as gas canisters and vapes, in household refuse or recycling bins.

Incorrectly disposed items have caused several fires in collection vehicles and at recycling facilities. To help keep crews and facilities safe, Veolia will be carrying out additional bin checks. Any bins found to contain hazardous items will not be emptied.

Please use the correct disposal routes for these items to help prevent fires and protect our community.

You can find more details on how to dispose of items and on our non-recycling waste and recycling waste pages.
