Donation Proposal by Reggeborgh Invest B.V. for the establishment of the Hellenic Armed Forces Trauma Centre in Athens and its Overseas Branch in Lebanon

The Ministry of National Defence is announcing that it received a donation proposal by Reggeborgh Invest B.V., of a total sum of 5,000,000 euros, for the establishment of the Hellenic Armed Forces Trauma Centre in Athens, as well as its Overseas Branch at the University Hospital of Balamand, Lebanon.

The development of the Trauma Centre will be carried out in cooperation with Harvard University and the Division of Trauma of Massachusetts General Hospital, and its Chief, Dr. Georgios Velmahos.

The Ministry of National Defence expresses its warmest gratitude towards Reggeborgh Invest B.V. and the Wessels - Holterman family for this important initiative and for their active support in the upgrade of the medical infrastructure of the Hellenic Armed Forces.

The establishment of the Trauma Centre is incorporated in the broader planning for the constant upgrade of the quality of the medical services provided to the personnel of the Armed Forces and their families. According to the planning of the Hellenic Army General Staff, the Centre is expected to operate within the facilities of 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, in order to comprehensively treat emergency injury incidents on the spot.

The operation of a modern Trauma Centre is a strategic choice for further reinforcing healthcare, utilising modern medical and technological capabilities and providing the medical and nursing staff with a comprehensive environment for the rapid diagnosis, stabilisation and treatment of serious incidents. The said initiative, meanwhile, aims to more efficiently utilise existing resources and establish an infrastructure with a long-term benefit for the Armed Forces, and the wider National Health System.

The Ministry of National Defence welcomes initiatives which essentially contribute to the reinforcement the "2030 Agenda" and looks forward to the completion of the requisite processes for the implementation of this donation.
