SPARKS, Nev. - [Sept. 18, 2025] -After a careful review of fire resources, call data, and response times, the City of Sparks has decided to transition apparatus and personnel currently housed at Fire Station 5, located at 6490 Vista Blvd., to the new Fire Station 6, located at 6963 Scheidbar Road, once completed.
"Our mission has always been to protect lives and property while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars," said Sparks Fire Chief Walt White. "This transition allows us to maintain high-quality service coverage and ensure our resources are deployed where they are needed most. We have always been, and will continue to be, committed to delivering the highest level of fire and emergency medical services to the community."
The adjustment ensures that north Sparks will continue to benefit from a fully staffed and equipped fire service, while allowing resources to be positioned where they can most efficiently serve the community. Chief White emphasized that there will be no reduction in overall equipment or personnel when Station 6 opens.
"Station 5 responds to fewer calls for service compared to other stations in the city," Chief White said. "Each call we receive is important, and our priority is to staff and allocate resources in a way that ensures the fastest possible response for our community."
The location of the new Fire Station 6 also offers a strategic advantage by reducing travel times to several of the busiest areas currently served by Station 5. Mutual aid agreements with regional partners will be rebalanced to provide the closest and fastest possible response, ensuring residents and businesses continue to receive timely fire and emergency coverage following this transition.
Station 5 was originally designed for four personnel. Since the 2024 launch of the Sparks Fire Department ambulance program, temporary dorm space has been used to house ambulance staff. Station 6 was designed with these additional staff in mind, and the ambulance program will transition there upon completion of construction.
Ready-to-respond apparatus and equipment will remain at Station 5 for use during major incidents and when extra staffing is available. The department will also implement dynamic staffing between Stations 5 and 6 when call volumes require it, particularly during peak hours and large events at Golden Eagle Regional Park.
Public safety and fiscal responsibility have been at the forefront of this decision. "The Sparks Fire Department is fully committed to protecting every neighborhood in our city," Chief White said. "We will continue to evaluate and adjust our operations to ensure we deliver the best possible service to our community."
Fire Station 6 is set to open in late October.
