Improving accessibility, enhancing learning: UNSSC updates its LMS

As part of our commitment to inclusion, we have significantly improved the digital accessibility of our Learning Management System (LMS), following a comprehensive review and enhancement process.

At the end of 2024, we conducted a digital accessibility assessment that provided a detailed overview of the LMS's performance against international accessibility standards, namely the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. Established by the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Accessibility Initiative, these standards aim at making web content more accessible for people with disabilities and all users in general. The assessment identified passes, fails, and non-applicable criteria, and served as a baseline for all subsequent improvements.

To ensure a seamless user experience for everyone pursuing their learning with UNSSC, we carried out targeted upgrades to the custom elements of our LMS infrastructure, including redesigning and adapting key user interfaces, such as the dashboard, user profile, course pages and content access areas. Additional updates were made to the platform's reading hierarchy and design system to ensure adherence to WCAG 2.2 standards.

As we continue our efforts to provide a system that is easier to use and more accessible for all learners, we recognize that technologies are continually evolving, and with them so are users' requirements. Therefore, we remain committed to expanding our LMS with accessible features and keeping it up to date, so that accessibility improvements are consistently integrated.

While we fulfil our commitment to identify and fix any accessibility barriers in the LMS, we remain open to your feedback. If you have any requests or issues you would like us to address, please let us know at: [email protected].
