Juvenile Killed in Serious Crash on North Academy Boulevard, Investigation Ongoing

On April 22, 2026, at approximately 2:39 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to multiple reports of a serious traffic crash at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Lehman Drive.

The initial investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling northbound on North Academy Boulevard, driven by an adult female, attempted to turn left onto Lehman Drive when it was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by a juvenile, with 2 juvenile passengers.

The CSPD Major Crash Team (MCT) was notified and responded to assume responsibility for the investigation. All vehicle occupants were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. During the on-scene investigation, officers were notified that one of the injured individuals had succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

On April 28, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office notified CSPD that the deceased individual is a juvenile whose identity will not be released in accordance with Colorado Law.

The adult female and 2 other juveniles sustained serious injuries and continue to receive medical treatment.

This is a continuing investigation that remains open and ongoing. At this point in the investigation, evidence suggests that the southbound vehicle ran a red light before entering the intersection. Speed is also being investigated as a contributing factor in this crash.

This incident represents the 16th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time in 2025, the city had experienced nine traffic-related fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 63 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
