Rep. Sykes Responds to Major Supreme Court Decisions

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) released the following statements in response to this week's decisions from the Supreme Court.

On Birthright Citizenship

"The Constitution is clear. The Fourteenth Amendment guarantees birthright citizenship, and today's decision upholds one of our nation's most fundamental constitutional promises. The rule of law matters, and no president can rewrite the Constitution through executive action."

On Transgender Student Athletes

"Every child deserves the opportunity to participate, learn, and belong. We should be creating opportunities for young people, not singling them out or excluding them. I will continue fighting for the dignity, safety, and equal treatment of every American."

On Campaign Finance

"Today's decision moves our democracy further in the wrong direction by allowing even more money to shape our elections. Americans deserve a government that answers to the people, not one increasingly dominated by wealthy special interests. I remain committed to strengthening transparency, accountability, and trust in our democracy."

On Mail-in Ballots

"Every eligible voter deserves the opportunity to have their voice heard. I support this decision recognizing that lawfully cast mail ballots should be counted, ensuring eligible voters are not disenfranchised simply because of mail delivery timelines. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible vote counts."
