Amazon expands Kindle Translate, an AI-powered translation service, to six languages for authors to reach global readers

Update: This article was originally published on November 6, 2025, and updated on June 30, 2026 to reflect the expansion of Kindle Translate to include French, Italian, and Portuguese.

Key takeaways

  • Kindle Translate now supports translations between English and Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese.
  • Thousands of authors are using the service, and customers are enjoying these translations, rating them 4+ stars on average.
  • The service is available in beta to Kindle Direct Publishing authors.
  • Kindle Translate titles are clearly labeled for readers.
Amazon has added new language pairings to Kindle Translate, the AI-powered translation service in beta that makes it easier for Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) authors to share their eBooks with readers worldwide. The service now supports translations between English and Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese. With historically less than 5% of titles on Amazon.com available in more than one language, Kindle Translate creates opportunities for authors to reach new audiences and earn more.

Our e-reader lineup also features a reimagined Kindle Scribe and the fastest Kindle Paperwhite ever.

Since launch, thousands of authors have used Kindle Translate, and customers have already read millions of pages of these translated titles-rating them 4+ stars on average.
The translation service, available in beta to KDP authors, lets authors create and manage their translations, including selecting languages, setting list prices, and publishing. With just a few clicks, authors can publish fully formatted translations of their books. All translations are automatically evaluated for accuracy and quality before publication, and authors can choose whether to preview or automatically publish once complete. These translated titles are eligible to be enrolled in KDP Select and included in Kindle Unlimited.

This expansion builds on Amazon KDP's ongoing commitment to supporting independent authors in reaching global audiences and increasing their earning potential. Kindle Translate provides free translation services for independent authors like Diane C., who said: "Working with Kindle Translate is better, faster, and much easier than past translation services. I'm able to offer languages I couldn't afford to offer otherwise." Fellow KDP author Isabel Acuña added, "Testing the beta version of Kindle Translate showed me that self-published authors no longer have to be limited by language when it comes to reaching international readers. It is incredible to see how Amazon is giving us tools to grow our business and make a living doing what we love: writing."
