Congresswoman Schrier Calls Out Republican Colleagues for Laughing Off Holding RFK Accountable

WASHINGTON, D.C.- At today's Energy and Commerce Committee markup, Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08)pressed her Republican colleagues to hold the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. responsible for pushing debunked conspiracy theories. Her colleagues on the other side of the aisle laughed as they refused to commit to holding RFK Jr. accountable.

Today's full committee markup was aimed at setting the committee's oversight priorities for the next two years - this includes oversight of federal agencies and the White House.

An extended video of Congresswoman Schrier's remarks can be found here.

Transcript:

"My colleagues are laughing, and I just wanna be really clear again as a pediatrician: we should not have to wait for kids to get sick and kids to die because you think this is some sort of joke.

When there are experts representing public health in this country who sow doubt about proven science about vaccines, cause parents to hesitate, and some of them to not vaccinate their children, and their children get sick, potentially die, or their children bring diseases to school to the child in that classroom with leukemia. This is not a laughing matter."
