Interchange Improvements Transition to Stage 3 at Routes A/B over I-70 in Warren County

HANNIBAL - Contractor crews will soon shift to Stage 3 construction at the Routes A/B and Interstate 70 interchange (mile marker 188.6), near Pendleton in Warren County.

Work will be divided into two construction phases. Initially, Phase 3A will focus on tie-in work located south and west of the interchange then transition to phase 3B focusing on all four Interstate 70 ramps at the interchange.

Weather permitting, as early as September 29, motorists will notice work beginning on two tie-in sections located at West Veterans Memorial Parkway and Route B to connect pavement to the newly constructed segments from previous stages.

Traffic impacts during Phase 3A work will include:

  • A 7-day CLOSURE at the following locations to facilitate tie-in work:
    • Route B - from the eastbound I-70 ramps to just south of West Veterans Memorial Parkway. The eastbound I-70 ramps will remain open.
    • West Veterans Memorial Parkway - from Route B intersection to just east of the interchange, near the end of the eastbound I-70 on-ramp
  • A signed detour will be in place to direct Route B traffic to Missouri Route 19 or Missouri Route 47 to reach their destinations
  • West Veterans Memorial Parkway traffic should utilize the interchanges to the east or west to reach their destinations:
    • Routes E and Y interchange at Jonesburg in Montgomery County
    • Route MM interchange, west of Warrenton in Warren County

Weather permitting, work will transition to Phase 3B as early as October 5. Route B and West Veterans Memorial Parkway will reopen, and work will shift to the I-70 on and off ramps.

Phase 3B traffic impacts will include:

  • A full closure at all four of the I-70 interchange ramps. I-70 traffic will remain open in both the eastbound and westbound directions.
  • A signed detour will divert eastbound and westbound I-70 ramp traffic to the Routes E and Y interchange, at Jonesburg and Route MM, west of Warrenton. This closure is scheduled to last up to 45 days.

As progress continues on the project, the interchange will be an active work zone and require various segments to close for roadway construction. "There are currently a significant number of active work zones throughout the I-70 corridor. We would like to remind drivers to please slow down, obey all signs and eliminate distractions while driving. The safety of the traveling public and our workers is our top priority," stated Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Jeff Niemeyer.

Signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists, as schedule changes occur. MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media.
