The City of West Sacramento celebrated the grand opening of The Bridge at West Gateway on Thursday, June 25, marking the completion of a new affordable housing community that brings 60 apartment homes for working families and advances the City's commitment to expanding housing opportunities, strengthening economic mobility, and supporting equitable growth.
Developed by Jamboree Housing Corporation in partnership with the West Sacramento Housing Development Corporation and the City of West Sacramento, The Bridge represents a significant investment in the community and the successful completion of West Gateway Place Phase II. Located near employment centers, public transportation, schools, and essential services, the development helps connect residents to opportunity while reducing barriers to housing stability.
The four-story community just steps from Sutter Health Park provides affordable homes for households earning between 30% and 60% of Area Median Income, including six permanent supportive housing units reserved for families earning 20% of Area Median Income who are at risk of homelessness.
"The Bridge represents our commitment to ensuring West Sacramento remains a place where working families can build stability, access opportunities, and create a brighter future for the next generation," said Mayor Martha Guerrero. "By investing in developments such as The Bridge, we are signaling to others that West Sacramento is a place you want to live, work, and play. We are proud to partner with organizations like Jamboree that share our vision of a city."
The City played a critical role in bringing the project to fruition through a funding package exceeding $10 million, including investments from its Housing Trust Fund, HOME Program Income Funds, and a land carryback loan. The development also fulfills a major Proposition 1C affordable housing obligation, reflecting the City's continued commitment to meeting local and state housing goals while ensuring residents of all income levels have a place in West Sacramento's future.
"The true measure of a community is not simply how it grows, but how it creates opportunities for people from all walks of life. This investment is expanding access to quality housing and strengthening not only our housing landscape, but the social fabric that makes West Sacramento a welcoming and vibrant place for generations to come," said West Sacramento District 2 Councilmember Quirina Orozco.
In addition to affordable homes, The Bridge features a variety of community amenities, including an outdoor courtyard, children's play area, youth gathering spaces, and a community room that supports resident programming and services. Through a partnership with Yolo County Children's Alliance, residents will have access to after-school tutoring, financial literacy education, and other supportive programs designed to enhance quality of life and promote self-sufficiency.
Housing is a critical component of a healthy and thriving community, and investments such as The Bridge help ensure that residents and employees can continue to live near jobs, schools, transportation options, and community amenities while contributing to the City's long-term economic vitality.
