Ohio State alumni honored

The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine recognized several Distinguished Alumni at a ceremony on September 12.

Distinguished Alumni

Dr. Karen L. Kline (Ohio State '89) serves as an associate professor of neurology at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also serves as staff neurologist and is past medical director at VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Kline is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in neurology and certified in veterinary acupuncture. She serves as immediate past president of the North American Veterinary Community.

Dr. Bill Minton (Ohio State '85) owns Minton Veterinary Service in Chickasaw, Ohio, focusing on food animal medicine. His practice hosts veterinary students from The Ohio State University for off-site electives. Dr. Minton is also a co-founder of Four Star Veterinary Service, primarily serving commercial swine producers via clinics in six states. He has led efforts in biosecurity, disease surveillance, and production analysis, and has served in leadership roles with several organizations, including the Ohio Pork Council and Ohio VMA.

Dr. Timothy Trayer (Ohio State '79), is a co-founder of Agricultural Veterinary Associates in Lititz, Pennsylvania, focusing on food animal health. He co-authored the Boar Stud Isolation and Health Guidelines for the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV). Dr. Trayer is a past chair of the AVMA Council on Veterinary Service and AVMA Animal Agriculture Liaison Committee and has represented the AASV on the AVMA Clinical Practitioners Advisory Committee.

Honorary Distinguished Alumna

Cheryl Day, executive vice president of the Ohio Pork Council, won this award, honoring non-graduates of the College of Veterinary Medicine who demonstrate exceptional commitment to animal welfare, excellence in veterinary education, service, and outreach. She works closely with producers, policymakers, and educators to advance the council's mission of serving and benefiting Ohio pork producers. One of Day's key policy achievements was leading the successful effort to ban feral swine in Ohio. She has also served an important role in addressing Ohio's rural veterinary shortage.
