Science to Engage Thousands During Annual Super STEM Saturday

Build and launch a rocket, view the surface of the sun and discover how chemistry is better than magic.

These are just a few of the more than 130 hands-on, interactive activities and demonstrations that will engage thousands of attendees at Super STEM Saturday on March 14 at Cal State San Marcos. This rain-or-shine science festival is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Children of all ages are invited to attend.

"What we take away from our childhood is really meaningful to what we decide to do as adults," said Simon Kuo, vice president of corporate quality for Viasat, one of the lead sponsors of Super STEM Saturday. "That's why we believe it's really important to expose kids to science and technology so that it can help them better appreciate it and perhaps even choose a career in STEM."

"Super STEM Saturday is a powerful event," said Jackie Trischman, dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at CSUSM. "I want our community to see someone who looks like them having fun doing science. It's also an opportunity to bring our community together and celebrate what science does for us on a daily basis."

"Super STEM Saturday is more than a day of discovery; it's about sparking a lifelong passion for innovation," said Kurtis Indorf, CEO of The Classical Academies. "We are proud to partner with our community to show students that their curiosity today is the foundation for the breakthroughs of tomorrow."

The sponsors of Super STEM Saturday include ASML; Bristol Myers Squibb; Hunter Industries; North City; Viasat; Columbia Bank; Cox Communications; General Atomics Sciences Education Foundation; Grifols; Burns & McDonnell; Calsense; C.W. Driver; Dimensions Collaborative School; Hologic; Sign Post Studio; Young, Minney & Corr, LLP; Hilbers, Inc.; Mission Fed Credit Union; and San Diego Foundation.
