Police Confirm Federal Activity on Chippewa Street
The Elgin Police Department confirmed a federal operation being conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security occurred in the 800-900 block of Chippewa Street in Elgin early this morning.
The police department was not notified in advance of the federal operation and was not involved in its planning or execution.
The Elgin Police Department follows established policies and state law that prohibit its police officers from assisting Department of Homeland Security or any other federal agents with civil immigration enforcement.
