WASHINGTON, DC (January 10, 2025) - The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released its annual Notorious Markets Report, which tracks trends in copyright infringement and identifies online piracy websites and other illicit marketplaces. This report reaffirms the US government's commitment to copyright protection and enforcement and the critical importance of defending creators and their vital contributions to our economy.
Mitch Glazier, Chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA), made the following statement:
"The 2024 Notorious Markets Report documents the threat copyright piracy poses to US economic security. It exposes the ways piracy continues to evolve and the legal contortions criminals use to attempt to hide from liability while charting a strong path forward to protect creators' rights, American cultural leadership and jobs.
"We are grateful to USTR and the intellectual property interagency for their continued vigilance and work documenting risks to the creative sector, including emerging AI technologies that threaten mass scale copyright theft. We look forward to continuing to work with the US government to stem the negative impact of piracy and develop pro-growth, pro-creator policies and enforcement priorities."
