Your City at Work: From the Mayor's Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Extreme Heat: Governor Lamont has activated Connecticut's extreme hot weather protocol effective through 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 5. During this period, peak temperatures are expected to reach up to 100 degrees. Please stay hydrated and take caution when going outdoors. You can find a list of cooling centers here.

MAYOR'S UPDATES

  • America 250: This Saturday marks America's 250th anniversary. There will be celebratory events across the city over the next few days - don't miss out!
  • New Superintendent: This week, I met with our new Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Adrian Talley, to officially welcome him to Stamford following his first day on July 1st. Dr. Talley joins our district from the Indian Prairie School District in Illinois, bringing a proven track record of executive leadership in curriculum development, student services, and community engagement. Supporting our schools remains a top priority for my administration, and I look forward to working in close partnership with Dr. Talley to support our dedicated educators, empower our students, and deliver visible progress on our ongoing efforts to build modern, safe, and world-class learning environments across Stamford.

CITY NEW S

  • July 4th Recycling and Sanitation: Household Garbage and Recycling will be collected on Friday, July 3rd. The Scale House/Transfer will be closed, but the Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center will be open. All facilities will reopen on Monday, July 6th.
  • Beach Permits: Beach permits are now available for purchase online, by mail, or in person at the Cashiering and Permitting Department. Residents are encouraged to buy their permits early rather than wait until beach season! Permits are required beginning on May 1st through September 30th. Click here to purchase.
  • Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.

    RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

  • Boards and Commissions: Are you a Stamford resident interested in serving on a City Board or Commission? Click here to learn more about serving.
  • Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, visit here.

Traffic

  • Eversource Cable Modernization Project: Eversource has started construction to replace two of its underground cables from 1968. To learn more and sign up for construction updates visit here.
  • Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.
  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic. Residents can click here for updates.
