San Mateo County ― Caltrans has scheduled intermittent closures of the northbound right lanes (sometimes called "slow lanes") of U.S. 101 between Whipple Ave. in Redwood City and Broadway Ave. in Burlingame so that crews can repair guardrails and perform paving operations. The work will also require intermittent ramp closures throughout the project limits.
Nighttime closures will start at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes. Work will be carried out in accordance with the following schedule, depending on weather:
Upcoming detours on U.S. 101 at University Avenue
Northbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to University Ave.
Take the off-ramp to eastbound Willow Rd. Turn right on Newbridge St. to Bay Rd. to University Ave.
Northbound U.S. 101 on-ramp to University Ave.
Take University Ave. north to Bay Rd., turn left on Bay, turn right at Newbridge St., turn left on Willow, and enter the on-ramp to U.S. 101.
Drivers should follow posted detour signs when ramps are closed.
This work is part of the $177M U.S. 101 (San Mateo County) Multi-Asset Rehabilitation & Roadside Safety Project. The project scope includes paving, guardrail improvements, transportation management system enhancements, drainage upgrades, and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps. The project will bring operational improvements and promote economic vitality in the region. The project is funded by the State's Highway Operation and Protection Plan (SHOPP), a "fix-it-first" program that funds California highway repair and preservation.
All work is weather dependent. Please drive with caution. Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
