Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement on President Trump's Birthright Citizenship Executive Order

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump's birthright citizenship executive order.

"Turning our backs on immigrant communities in our country would not only affect thousands of hard-working families in America and devastate our economy, but would also go against the 14^th Amendment of our Constitution. As the Supreme Court affirmed in 1898 in Wong Kim Ark v United States, all persons born in the United States are entitled to the rights of citizenship regardless of race or the immigration status of one's parents. Some may falsely think they can take a pen and rewrite the Constitution as they please, but we will continue to defend the Constitution against all such attempts."
