On Thursday, the House Education Committee advanced HB1005. This bill would amend the law regarding tuition waivers for Arkansas National Guard Soldiers and Airmen to include programs of study leading to a postsecondary certificate or credential.
The House Judiciary Committee advanced HB1071. This bill amends the Frank Broyles Publicity Rights Protection Act by providing protections for an individual whose photograph, voice, or likeness is reproduced through artificial intelligence and used commercially.
The House passed several bills on Thursday.
Among them was HB1133, which allows the Northwest Technical Institute to appoint a president with an industry background rather than an educational background.
The House also approved HB1006, which redesignates the 14th Judicial District as a Division A Judicial District.
Additionally, the House passed bills to separate the offices of sheriff and tax collector in both Searcy County and Poinsett County.
Another bill passing the House on Thursday, HB1075, prohibits local governments from restricting the use or sale of lawn care devices based on their energy source and prevents them from imposing excise taxes or fees for the same reason.
The House will reconvene on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
