UAA's Tosi nabs GNAC Player of the Week award

Portland, Oregon (Feb. 9) - UAA senior Bishop Tosi was named Monday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for men's basketball after propelling the Seawolves to a pair of home victories.

A 6-6 forward, Tosi averaged 22.0 points on 75 percent shooting, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as UAA defeated Central Washington 77-70 on Thursday and Northwest Nazarene 71-53 on Saturday.

In the first game, the former Bartlett High School star scored a career-high 30 points on 13-of-16 shooting, including a game-clinching putback with one minute remaining. His .813 field-goal percentage was fourth-best on UAA's program list (minimum 15 attempts), while his eight rebounds against the Wildcats were one shy of his season high. On Saturday, Tosi posted 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, five rebounds and two assists to aid a 71-53 win over NNU. He also contributed to a defensive effort that saw the Seawolves hold the Nighthawks 26 points below their season average and outrebound them 38-24.

"Bishop was outstanding for us this weekend on both ends of the floor," said UAA coach Rusty Osborne. "He continued his excellent play since we came back from winter break. He has been efficient offensively and continues to be tremendous for us on the defensive end as well."

It is the second career GNAC Player of the Week honor for Tosi and the second for a Seawolf this season, along with Hasaan Herrington for the first week of January.

Winners of three in a row, the Seawolves (17-7, 9-4 GNAC) stay home to face arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center. The game is part of UAA's 'Bounce Back For Charity' doubleheader with the Seawolf women (5:15 vs Simon Fraser), featuring free admission for patrons who donate 'soft items' such as hats, socks, mittens, coats and toilet paper.
