First day, fresh start

At start of fall semester, students are looking ahead with plans to be involved, find balance and make the most of the academic year

Across the University of Delaware, students were making the most of their final hours before classes began on Aug. 25.

For some students, preparing for the semester means finding their classes or reviewing their syllabi ahead of time. For others, the start of an academic year is also a new opportunity for them to consider who they want to become, what they want to prioritize and how they will make the most of their time at UD.

The day before the start of the semester, first-year criminal justice major Mahari Collins sorted through an armful of school supplies in the Barnes & Noble bookstore.

"I'm not technology savvy, so I'm really glad that I was able to get everything set up on my laptop at the Ask IT Service Desk in Smith Hall earlier today," she said. "On a scale of one to 10, I'd say I'm a calm six, and I know I'll be even more relaxed after I've been to a few of my classes."
