WVU Libraries to kick off West Virginia Day celebrations with panel discussion, exhibit opening

WHAT: The West Virginia and Regional History Center at West Virginia University Libraries will host a West Virginia Day celebration, featuring a panel discussion and the opening of a new exhibit exploring the history and culture of the Mountain State.

WHEN: Thursday, June 18, 2 p.m.

WHERE: WVU Downtown Library Complex, Milano Reading Room, 1549 University Ave., Morgantown

WHO: William "Hal" Gorby, WVU associate professor of history, panelists including recent graduates from the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences Department of History, representatives from the West Virginia and Regional History Center, attendees

NOTES: As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, the program will reflect on West Virginia's place in the nation's story and examine themes of identity, freedom and democracy.

Following the program, attendees are invited to visit the West Virginia and Regional History Center for the opening of the new exhibit, "Mountaineers Are Always Free: West Virginia at 250." The exhibition examines the power of place in West Virginia, highlights the people who call the state home, and explores stories of struggles for freedom and democracy across West Virginia history.

Birthday cake and refreshments will be served.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated for planning purposes, but not required. Register to attend.
