Compassionate Care in the Community: Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola Hosts Medical Mission at Home
On Saturday, May 2, Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola brought its Mission to life at the Brownsville Community Center, providing free health and wellness services to nearly 200 community members during the Medical Mission at Home event.
The event focused on serving those who are uninsured, underinsured or facing barriers to traditional care. By removing the need for insurance or appointments, care teams were able to provide immediate, compassionate care to neighbors in need.
Medical Mission at Home provided a wide range of onsite services designed to care for the mind, body and spirit, including:
Beyond clinical care, the event addressed essential needs by distributing 3,750 pounds of fresh produce, along with over 100 pairs of shoes, socks and eyeglasses.
"Medical Mission at Home really speaks to the Mission that the Daughters of Charity brought to us over 110 years ago, to bring care out into the communities we serve," said Will Condon, President and CEO, Ascension Sacred Heart. "Being at Brownsville Community Center, I could not think of a better place to extend our Mission."
Nearly 300 associates and volunteers dedicated their time to make the day possible. The excitement among the staff was palpable as they moved clinical care from the hospital setting directly into the neighborhood.
"We're used to doing charity work and uncompensated work in the hospital, but we don't get to do it a lot in the community," said Justin Labrato, Vice President of Operations, Ascension Sacred Heart. "There is so much excitement at Sacred Heart and from our volunteers to get out there and help our community."
The impact was felt deeply by those in attendance. "This is beautiful," said attendee Yahseph Nedabyah. "It helps people that don't have the opportunity to check in about their health. They have brought it out to the community and I think that's really good."
This event was made possible through the support of community partners, including Manna Food Pantries and Community Health Northwest Florida.
First held in 2019, the return of Medical Mission at Home in 2026 marks a renewed commitment to bringing this event to the Pensacola area. As one of Ascension Sacred Heart's flagship community impact programs, there are plans to make this a recurring initiative to ensure continued support for those who are most vulnerable.
