EUMAM MOZ: Europe Day marked side by side with the Mozambican population

The celebration of Europe Day began with a military ceremony attended by the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, ambassadors of European countries represented in Mozambique, senior officials from the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM), and several high-ranking civilian authorities.

On this highly symbolic and significant day for all Europeans, two EUMAM MOZ military personnel, who will shortly complete their mission in Mozambique, and two members of the European Union Delegation to Mozambique were awarded.

The commemorative walk took place in an atmosphere of friendship, cooperation, and shared experiences, reflecting the Mission's commitment to promoting peace, stability, and strengthening relations between the different countries and cultures represented within EUMAM MOZ and the Mozambican people.

Throughout the route, participants had the opportunity to engage with one another, learn about different realities, promote physical well-being, and commemorate a date of great symbolic importance for the European Union.

Before concluding the sports morning, the medical team from EUMAM MOZ conducted health screenings for all interested participants, ensuring that everyone was in good health.

Celebrated annually on May 9^th, Europe Day marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, presented in 1950 and is considered one of the founding milestones of European integration.

The date marked the beginning of a new era of peace, integration, and cooperation across the European continent, laying the foundations for the European Union as we know it today. It symbolises the principles of unity, solidarity, peace, and cooperation among European people - values that continue to guide the actions of European Union missions in different parts of the world.

Through this initiative, EUMAM MOZ reinforces that its Mission goes beyond the operational sphere, reflecting an ongoing responsibility of closeness, support, and cooperation with the people of Mozambique.

The presence of EUMAM in Mozambique reflects the commitment of the European Union and Mozambique to strengthening local capacities, promoting security, and enhancing stability and operational effectiveness.
