LOCKHAVEN, PA - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced that Dr. Stacey Kendig, professor of recreational studies at Shepherd University, is its nominee for the 2024 NCAA Division II Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor Award.

Kendig is also the director of the Department of Recreation, Sport, and Exercise Sciences and is vital to the success of many Shepherd student-athletes.

Shepherd Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor and Senior Women's Administrator Jenny Cavey nominated Kendig for the award.

The Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor Award, named after a Bellarmine University physical therapy professor who passed away in 2013, recognizes faculty members at Division II institutions for their dedication to supporting and mentoring student-athletes as well as their commitment to Division II student-athletes lifelong learning, competition, and well-being.

Kendig goes above and beyond her day-to-day duties to ensure Shepherd student-athletes have the proper guidance.

As an instructor, she focuses on how students learn differently and how to mold her teaching to those different learning styles.

With her wealth of knowledge in the field of sport studies, sports marketing, therapeutic recreation, health promotion and exercise science, sports communication, and athletic coaching, Kendig taps into a variety of resources to collect data, share information, and stay up to date on new processes.

Kendig's passion and energy are infectious to the students and staff around her, both personally and professionally, and she maintains connections within the surrounding areas of Shepherd University to connect with alumni and local professionals that could potentially set up future internships for student-athletes.

Also considered for recognition from the PSAC was Mansfield's Dr. Kristen Long Puleo, associate professor of biology and FAR; Shepherd's Dr. Haley Albright, assistant professor of chemistry; Slippery Rock's Dr. John Mathe, assistant professor of counseling and development; and West Chester's John Taylor, DNP, RN, associate professor of nursing and pre-licensure BSN program director.
