LG&E and KU seek proposals for thermal generation resources

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) - Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company announced today that they have issued a Request for Proposals for firm, dispatchable electric capacity and energy from thermal generation resources to help support load growth.

LG&E and KU will consider proposals with nameplate capacities totaling at least 50 megawatts, as well as power purchase agreements, new or existing asset purchases, and build-transfer agreements for site-specific resources with any commercial operation date.

"We are continually evaluating ways to meet our customers' evolving energy needs while maintaining our focus on safety, reliability and affordability," said Chuck Schram, vice president of Energy Supply and Analysis for LG&E and KU. "This RFP is part of our ongoing effort to expand our energy portfolio and identify solutions that can help us serve future customer demand."

LG&E and KU will evaluate all proposals in the context of their existing portfolio for the purpose of serving customers reliably and at the lowest reasonable cost. All response summaries and associated proposal data forms should contain all information needed to evaluate the proposal(s). However, LG&E and KU reserve the right to request additional information. Any resources ultimately selected through the RFP would supplement LG&E and KU's generation investment plans approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

To be considered, proposed resources must be deliverable to LG&E and KU's transmission system, qualify as Designated Network Resources under the companies' Open Access Transmission Tariff, and comply with applicable interconnection procedures and industry standards. Additional technical and submission requirements are included in the RFP.

All parties interested in participating in the RFP can request information by emailing [email protected]. The deadline for submission of proposals is 4 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2026.
