The marathon and half marathon return on Sunday, April 11, headlining a two-day celebration of running in the heart of the capital city. The UC Marathon 5K opens race weekend on Saturday, April 10, giving athletes of every age and ability a place on a starting line.
Participants can expect a premium race experience featuring custom medals and awards, a well-marked course, enthusiastic community support, and exceptional race-day organization.
"What we saw during the first UC Marathon was exactly what we hoped this event could become. It was a celebration of our university, our beautiful city, and the incredible people who make our community special," UC President Marty Roth said. "The energy and support surrounding the race showed that this has the potential to become a lasting tradition for Charleston, and we are excited to welcome runners, families, and visitors back in 2027."
As the only marathon in Charleston, the Boston Qualifying route carries runners along a fast, flat 26.2 miles past the West Virginia State Capitol, along the Kanawha River, through historic city streets, and across the picturesque University of Charleston campus. It is a tour of the city at running pace, with crowds lining the way.
Whether chasing a personal best, completing a first marathon, or walking alongside family and friends, there is a distance for every athlete.
Hosted by the University of Charleston in partnership with the City of Charleston and the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau, the race has quickly become more than a competition. Proceeds support the University's Honors College, helping provide future opportunities for scholars and student leaders.
Combined with Charleston's welcoming atmosphere and the course's unique blend of urban and campus scenery, the UC Marathon offers an experience unlike any other in the region.
Runners are encouraged to sign early to take advantage of lower prices. Registration will remain open through April 10:
