Head of Mission: Eugène Van Kemenade

On 13 May 2026, the Political and Security Committee adopted a decision ( https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dec/2026/1093/oj ) to appoint Eugène Van Kemenade as Head of Mission of EUCAP Sahel Mali. He previously served at EUCAP as Deputy Head of Mission and brings extensive knowledge of its mandate and the Malian context to his new role.

Van Kemenade is a senior civilian crisis management leader with over twenty years of executive experience in politically sensitive and high-risk environments across Africa and Asia. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions within the European Union (EU) and United Nation frameworks, engaging at vice-presidential, ministerial and Special Representative of the Secretary-General / EU Special Representatives level in support of political stabilisation and security sector governance.

He holds a master's degree in social sciences and is a national of the Netherlands.
