Salem Seeks Community Members for City Seal Task Force

The City of Salem is seeking applicants to serve on a new City Seal Task Force to engage in research, community conversations, and design and historical review evaluating the Seal of the City of Salem and potentially developing recommendations for possible modifications to it. The Task Force's final report will be provided to the City Council and Mayor. Ultimately, any changes to the Seal would require a vote by the City Council and approval by the Mayor.

The Task Force will be comprised of eleven individuals, seven of whom will be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Those seven include five Salem residents at least two of whom are members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and one of whom is under the age of 18, and two credentialed historians. It will also include designees from the Race Equity Commission, the Mayor, and the City Clerk.

Within 18 months from its formation, the Task Force is responsible for preparing a final report based on its historical research, design input, and public feedback and deliver such report to both the City Council and Mayor.

Those interested in being considered for appointment to the City Seal Task Force should submit a resume and cover letter to [email protected] no later than noon on Friday, November 22, 2024. In your cover letter please specify how you represent a relevant constituency and any expertise you will bring to the Task Force.
