Creative Action Month: Week 1 Checklist

[Link]June is the Month of Creative Action!

This month, make a difference and support the creative sector with local actions that have a big impact.

As federal funding changes and disruptionsaffect so many aspects of our lives and communities in Vermont, now is the time to take action to support the creative sector.

Each week in June, subscribers to our email list will receive a checklist of meaningful steps you can take to support Vermont's creative sector.

We'll use the power of the arts to do what we do best: bring people together and build a better future for everyone. Let's take creative action!

Here's what you can do in your community this week to make a difference:

  • Buy season tickets to your local theater or performing arts venue.Local theaters and performing art spaces reflect the stories, values, and voices of your community. Supporting them keeps your town culturally vibrant and unique. Check out the Vermont Arts Council's arts event calendar.
  • Introduce yourself to the staff at your local library. Write a thank you note or drop off gift, maybe some locally made chocolates! Libraries are a public good-free, inclusive, and open to all. Supporting them helps ensure they stay that way. Find your local library here.
  • Contact your selectboard members or city councilors and invite them to your arts and humanities programming.Selectboard members and city councilors play an important role in supporting the creative sector, and elected officials want to know what is happening in their communities. Find their contact information on your town's website and invite them to your next exhibit opening or performance.
  • Read a book by a Vermont author, like these recently nominated for the 2024 Vermont book awards.
  • Call your federal representatives and thank them for their support of funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Institute for Museum and Library Services. Find your elected officials.
