Hurricane Isaias has formed in the Gulf Coast, becoming the first Atlantic hurricane of the season. The storm has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, and is expected to intensify further as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast.
Isaias is projected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday as a Category 2 hurricane, with the potential to strengthen further before reaching the coast. The warning area extends from Mississippi through Alabama to the Florida Gulf Coast.
The storm could bring damaging winds, storm surge, heavy rainfall, flooding, and tornadoes. Impacts may also extend into the Southeast and Tennessee Valley, where heavy rainfall and flooding remain concerns.
