City of Wilmington Invites Residents, Visitors to Upcoming 250th Celebrations

As communities across the country gear up for the nation's 250th anniversary, the City of Wilmington invites residents and visitors to participate in three semi-quincentennial events slated for June and July.

"Wilmington's 250th events recognize the important role that our state and our city have played in our nation's story, while celebrating Wilmington's past, present, and future," said Mayor John Carney. "There is something for everyone to enjoy, and I encourage all members of our community to join us during this historic summer."

FIFA Watch Parties

In partnership with 19 local restaurants, Wilmington will host FIFA World Cup watch parties beginning June 11 through July 19. Each location will feature at least four screens dedicated to World Cup games, creating exciting atmospheres for soccer fans to cheer on their favorite teams. Participating venues will offer special promotions, giveaways, and prizes throughout the tournament in partnership with Michelob Ultra, the official beer sponsor of FIFA.

A complete list of the 19 participating venues is available at InWilmDE.com.

Rumble in Rodney

On Friday, June 26, Rumble in Rodney will feature the first-ever boxing event in the heart of downtown Wilmington. Beginning at 5 pm in Rodney Square, this free, USA Boxing-sanctioned event will showcase top amateur fighters from boxing gyms across the region, with bouts beginning promptly at 6 pm. The evening will also include special guest appearances, live music, food trucks, and a drone show at the conclusion of the last bout. Ringside seating is available for purchase at the Cityfest website.

July 4

This year's historic Fourth of July event will transform the Wilmington Riverfront into a celebration of Delaware's history, culture, and community. On Saturday, July 4 from 2 pm to 10 pm, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy:

  • Live music performances including Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Kristen & The Noise, Clifford Brown Festival Orchestra, Lower Case Blues, and DJ Mega Skills

  • Family-friendly attractions including hot-air balloon rides, free admission to the Delaware Children's Museum, Kalmar Nyckle tours, amusement rides, and strolling entertainers

  • Delaware Made Village featuring local artisans

  • Food courts and beer gardens

  • The Honor Tent: an immersive tribute to Delaware's history and founding

The celebration will culminate in a fireworks display over the Christina River at 9:30 pm, synchronized to music from the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. Admission is free.
