Statement by Foreign Minister Eide on ceasefire in Lebanon

'I fully support the ceasefire in Lebanon as announced by President Trump. This is an important and much needed step towards de-escalation of the current crisis in the region. I commend the USA for facilitating the conversations leading to this announcement, as well as the governments of Lebanon and Israel for seeking a diplomatic solution to the conflict', said Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

'Norway encourages Israel and Hizbollah to comply with the ceasefire and cease all forms of attacks and violence. All actors must make use of this opportunity to find a lasting political solution to a conflict that has no military solution. Now the violence and suffering for the civilian population must end, and Norway support efforts that can turn this opportunity into lasting peace', said Eide.
