MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Chairman of theSenate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, traveled to Moundsville, W.Va., to visit American Electric Power's (AEP) Mitchell Power Plant. Following a roundtable discussion with AEP leadership and staff on West Virginia's energy leadership, Senator Capito toured the plant and was given an update on the U.S. Department of Energy's $51 million investment in the plant to modernize the facility.
"It's great to be back in Moundsville today with AEP leadership and staff to discuss our shared goal of producing reliable, baseload energy right here in West Virginia. Our state has long been known as an energy leader, and we must continue to be so as we face rising power demands across America," Senator Capito said. "Our pursuit of American energy dominance is critical to ensuring grid reliability and lower costs for our families, and I'm proud to support Mitchell Power Plant's work to invest in this facility and continue West Virginia's proud tradition powering our country."
"We're grateful for the support of Senator Capito and the administration who recognize the important role the Mitchell Plant plays in delivering reliable power to customers in West Virginia and across the region," Bill Fehrman, AEP Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, said. "Federal investments allow us to make needed upgrades, support long-term reliability and reduce the cost impact on customers at a time when energy demand continues to grow."
