MILWAUKEE - Marquette University President Kimo Ah Yun has been named to the Board of Directors for Seton Catholic Schools, a collaborative network of 15 Milwaukee Archdiocesan Catholic elementary schools.
Seton Catholic Schools is a non-profit, educational institution managed and operated in accordance with the Canon law of the Roman Catholic Church, with an independent Board of Directors dedicated to student achievement and the success of Catholic education in Milwaukee. The board is responsible for setting Seton Catholic Schools policy, strategy, direction and to approve operational funding.
"Seton Catholic Schools is transforming the educational landscape in Milwaukee and it is an honor to join the board of directors," Dr. Ah Yun said. "I have witnessed how education can change the trajectory of students' lives and that change is happening within each of the Seton schools every day. Seton recently broke ground for the first new Catholic elementary schools in the City of Milwaukee in more than 60 years, which will have a powerful impact on families and communities for years to come."
Dr. Ah Yun was elected the 25th president of Marquette University in November 2024. He joined Marquette in 2016 as dean of the Diederich College of Communication, was named acting provost in 2018 and then permanent provost and executive vice president for academic affairs in 2019.
Seton Catholic Schools was established in November 2015 as a new initiative of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee as an outcome of the 2014 Synod of The Archdiocese of Milwaukee which identified urban Catholic schools as a priority need and a matter of social justice. One additional catalyst for its formation was a November 2014 forum hosted by Marquette Law School and the College of Education, "The Future of Catholic K-12 Education: National and Milwaukee Perspectives." Speakers at the event discussed the need for improved academic achievement amongst students and increased Catholic identity in Milwaukee's urban Catholic schools.
