Hydroponic garden grant recipients announced

BISMARCK - Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced that 55 schools will receive hydroponic garden systems from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture's Farm to School hydroponics garden grant.

"Produce grown through these gardens supports nutrition education and increases student exposure to local foods," Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said. "The hydroponic gardens will impact nearly 5,000 K-12 students across the state with hands-on educational experiences, helping students build skills in plant science, nutrition and food systems."

Schools receiving grants are:

The systems are designed for repeated use, allowing schools to integrate hydroponics into curriculum and meal programs beyond the grant period.

Funding for the grants is from the United States Department of Agriculture Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program, which supports agriculture education, local food procurement and edible gardens in schools and early care settings.
