Two New Editing Residents

We are pleased to announce that Maydha Devarajan and Aidan Gardiner are joining The New York Times Editing Residency, a two-year program that offers training and support to early career editors who aspire to drive news coverage.

The editing residents begin their work on the Flexible Editing desk, where they focus on improving fundamentals. The residents then enter rotations in which they edit journalism across our newsroom, including daily articles, longer pieces and visual stories.

The next application window will open in the spring.

Maydha comes to The Times after working as the editor in chief for CityView, a newsroom that is part of The Assembly Network and based in Fayetteville, N.C. She began her career in local journalism as a reporter in her home state, North Carolina. Maydha previously worked for the Institute for Southern Studies, The Raleigh News & Observer and The Chatham News + Record. She is always excited to talk about the American South and is looking forward to exploring New York restaurants.

Aidan joined The Times in 2018. He transitions into the program from the Standards desk, where as a news assistant he helped readers better understand the journalism decisions behind some of our stories. He has also reported on wildfire victims in Oregon; tackled complex visual projects about the coronavirus pandemic; and edited for The New York Times Magazine. Previously, he covered breaking news for DNAinfo New York. His love of a good photo and a nice long walk have taken him up Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as into the Himalayas.

Maydha and Aidan will start on March 9. Join us in welcoming them to the program.
