The Cities of West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica are proud to announce a first-of-its-kind collaborative public art initiative celebrating the Route 66 Centennial. This summer, all three cities will present Path Discovery by artist Vinnie Hager, a vibrant series of graphic artworks that will appear as vinyl wraps on street poles in West Hollywood and Santa Monica, and as art banners along Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Featuring customized Route 66 shields and colorful motifs inspired by the joy of exploration and the cultural legacy of the historic highway, the project brings a unified artistic experience to one of Southern California's most iconic corridors.

This unprecedented collaboration marks the first time all three cities have partnered on a shared public art initiative, visually connecting Santa Monica Boulevard from the City of West Hollywood to the ocean. Installations of Path Discovery will begin on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with each city adapting the artwork to its own stretch of Route 66. Initiated through the City of West Hollywood's Creative Plan, this collaboration serves as an early model for future regional cultural coordination and demonstrates how cities can work together creatively across boundaries. This multi-city effort reflects on a collective commitment to celebrating history, supporting artists, and enriching public space through accessible, high-impact temporary art.

Each participating city is programming additional Route 66 Centennial celebrations, as follows:

City of West Hollywood:

• Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Route 66 Community Celebration at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, including a classic car show, celebration of Route 66 artists and artworks in West Hollywood, Charles Phoenix presentsa retro slideshow, Los Angelesland, and a Summer Sounds concert will close out the day-long celebration. • Luciana Abait's Road Trip, a temporary vinyl mural located at 8315 Santa Monica Boulevard reimagines the Route 66 landscape through transformed color, light, and texture.On view through November 2026. Images here

• Sylke Meyer's Past Tense / Future Perfect temporary sculpture at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard,captures the motion, mythology, and memory of Route 66 through a curved fiberglass camera obscura. Installation is expected in Fall 2026.

City of Beverly Hills:

• Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: A free commemorative postcard will be available at Concerts on Canon: The Tokens at Beverly Canon Gardens, located at 241 N. Canon Drive.

• Saturday, October 17, 2026 and Sunday, October 18, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Route 66-Themed Art Making at the Beverly Hills Art Show in Beverly Gardens Park, located at 9439 Santa Monica Boulevard, featuring Green Dog Workshop's personalized folded paper cars and maps; eDiscover Center's "vehicles to go" project using upcycled art materials; and, Starry Night Designs Route 66 road trip-themed marbled coasters.

• Sunday, October 18, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Petersen Automotive Museum will facilitate a community project at the Beverly Hills Art Show in Beverly Gardens Park, 9439 Santa Monica Boulevard using a full-sized vehicle for kids and families to decorate and personalize from bumper to bumper.

City of Santa Monica:

• Saturdays in August from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Cinema by the Sea at Regent Santa Monica Beach, located at 1700 Ocean Avenue, presents road trip-inspired movies paired with Route 66-inspired cocktails.

• Sunday, September 13, 2026: Santa Monica Route 66 Music Contest invites musicians and songwriters to submit an original song that captures the spirit, history, and cultural significance of Santa Monica's iconic connection to Route 66. Grand prize of $10,000.
