TYPE OF INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: 8/16/26 at 9:22 PM
LOCATION OF INCIDENT: 900 block E. Chase Ave., El Cajon, CA
SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 9:22 PM, the El Cajon Police Department received reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian in the 900 block of E. Chase Ave. Officers responded to the emergency call with Heartland Fire. The pedestrian, a 74-year-old male resident of El Cajon, had been crossing the street mid-block, returning to his parked vehicle when he was struck by the passing driver. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene after the collision and was cooperative with the investigation. DUI is not suspected as a factor.
The roadway remained closed for several hours while officers investigated the scene.
