As of Jan. 1, 2025, Dr. Indiren Pillay, chair of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, has transitioned into the role of interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia College & State University.

Dr. Pillay has extensive leadership experience and has served as a department chair since 2011, steadily increasing the number of faculty in his unit over the past 12 years. He also oversaw the establishment of the GCSU Aquatic Sciences Center, which launched in 2011; won a National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation Grant in 2015; was named a USG Executive Leadership Institute scholar in 2019; and contributed to the design of the Saladin Integrated Science Complex, which was built in 2021.

To round out the college's new leadership team, Dr. Kalina Manoylov, professor of Biology, has been asked to serve as the interim chair of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. Dr. Winston Tripp will remain in his role as associate dean of the college. These transitions were previously reported in December 2024.

A national search for the next dean of the College of Arts & Sciences will begin soon.
