Today, the Defence Team welcomes employees from Transport Canada's Aircraft Services Directorate (ASD), as they join the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG).
Just over six months after the CCG formally joined the Defence Team, this marks another crucial step in strengthening operational capabilities through the addition of aviation services personnel.
The transition begins today but will take place gradually. The CCG and the ASD will continue providing the same core services to Canadians, including marine safety, search and rescue, icebreaking, and environmental response, while Transport Canada maintains oversight of aviation regulations and the National Aerial Surveillance Program.
ASD's aviation assets will help the CCG reinforce its aerial fleet, supporting the upcoming security work under Bill C-12 (theStrengthening Canada's Immigration System and Borders Act). By uniting these capabilities, the Defence Team is improving its capacity for safeguarding Canada while supporting the important work that lies ahead.
A transition of this scale can raise questions. To provide clarity and ongoing support, a dedicated transition web page has been created. It consolidates key resources, including questions and answers, and will continue to be updated as new information becomes available throughout the transfer.
Employees are encouraged to speak with their managers and to support one another during this period of change.
