Fatal Vehicle Collision - Sunmeadow Drive & Franklin Boulevard

Just after 12:45 a.m. on October 07, 2024, Sacramento Police Officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision near Sunmeadow Drive & Franklin Boulevard. A male adult was located on scene in a vehicle with life-threatening injuries. That victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Fire personnel. The driver of the other vehicle was detained and displayed objective signs of intoxication. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Once cleared, officers booked 46-year-old Alvin Chand of Elk Grove on homicide and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges. Alvin has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Due to the circumstances, detectives from our Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) and Crime Scene Investigators responded to take over the investigation. They processed the scene, canvassed the area, and interviewed witnesses. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Officer is responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased victim after the next of kin has been notified.
