Statement of Support: Senate Introduction of the “New Opportunities for Business Ownership and Self-Sufficiency Act” (NO BOSS Act)

The following statement of support for the introduction of the "New Opportunities for Business Ownership and Self-Sufficiency Act" (NO BOSS Act) in the U.S. Senate may be attributed to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan:

"SBE Council applauds Senators Chris Coons, James Lankford and Jon Husted for their leadership in introducing the NO BOSS Act, legislation that will help more Americans pursue the opportunity of business ownership."

"New business filings and interest remain healthy, but Congress can help turn more of these entrepreneurial intentions into business launches by advancing practical reforms and measures that provide support to individuals through the transition period and time it takes to get a business off the ground. The NO BOSS Act provides such support by modifying federal rules governing state self-employment assistance programs, which would allow more eligible individuals to use these resources to start a business rather than only toward traditional employment."

"This is especially important in communities where job availability may be limited, or where individuals see opportunities to launch businesses that serve community needs, which then strengthen local economies. The opportunities and possibilities continue to flourish given the availability of digital tools, platforms and AI, which make starting and growing a business more efficient and affordable."

"SBE Council strongly supports the NO BOSS Act. The bill embodies smart reforms that turn the difficulty of a layoff into entrepreneurial opportunity.
