Tegucigalpa, 27 January 2026 - The President of the Republic of Honduras, Nasry Asfura, received the credentials of the Ambassador of the European Union, Gonzalo Fournier, in a ceremony that marked the new government's first official foreign policy gesture.
The European Union welcomed the beginning of President Asfura's constitutional term and reiterated its willingness to continue strengthening bilateral relations based on political dialogue, trade and cooperation for the benefit of the Honduran people.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Fournier highlighted the European Union's firm and long-term commitment to Honduras, as well as its willingness to work closely with the new national authorities in key areas for sustainable development, as expressed in the statements by the Spokesperson for the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on 24 December 2025 and 13 January 2026. In this context, the Ambassador stated that the European Union is ready to move forward with important initiatives, including strengthening the private sector, access to sustainable finance for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, the development of green value chains and support for strategic energy infrastructure projects, in coordination with the European Investment Bank.
The presentation of credentials reaffirms the mutual interest in continuing to deepen a solid and strategic alliance between the European Union and Honduras.
