Reminders in Advance of Anticipated Snow Event

March 13, 2026 - ROCHESTER, MINN. - In advance of the incoming snow event expected to impact the City of Rochester from March 14 to 16 the City shares the following updates and reminders:

  • Seasonal parking requirements are in effect from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day.
    • Park vehicles on the side of the street with ODD house numbers when the calendar date is ODD. (After 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, park on the ODD side to be in compliance for Sunday, March 15.)
    • Park vehicles on the side of the street with EVEN house numbers when the calendar date is EVEN. (After 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, park on the EVEN side to be in compliance for Monday, March 16.)
    • While cars can be parked on both sides of the street in the evening hours, drivers should park their vehicles overnight for the requirements that are in place the following day from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Posted parking signs must be followed regardless of the calendar date.

  • Rochester Public Transit (RPT) riders are strongly encouraged to download the Transit App and pin their route to receive real-time alerts on routes.
    • Routes 101, 102 and 306 will go on detour if significant snow accumulations occur.
    • Stops located in the middle of a hill will not be served; riders should walk to the bottom or top of the hill where the operator can safely stop.

  • No overnight parking on marked streets in the downtown area beginning on Saturday, March 14. Parking restrictions will continue nightly until snow has been fully cleared. Parking may resume once the signs are removed. Depending on snowfall amounts, this could continue through Thursday, March 19. City crews will be clearing and removing snow from the downtown area from midnight to 8 a.m.No parking signs were posted on impacted streets on March 12. A map of impacted streets is available on the City website.
  • Sidewalks and pedestrian ramps should be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours after the snowfall ends.

The City of Rochester's Public Works Department operates a fleet of snowplows that works to clear over 458 miles of roads, 10.5 miles of alleys, 540 cul-de-sacs, as well as 40 miles of sidewalks and bike paths within Rochester's city limits. Large snow events (more than 4" of snow) typically take 12 hours to clear, with high-priority roads being cleared during the snow event and low-priority roads being cleared after the event ends. This clearing work is expected to include 28 plow trucks, 2 graders, 7 loaders, 4 one-ton trucks to clear cul-de-sacs, 2-3 pick-up trucks and 2 sidewalk machines. The day after the initial snowfall, crews will be sent out to clear the alternate side of the street, typically in 8 hrs.
